| March 2011 3R Technology Newsletter |
|
Hi everyone!
We've been writing the 3R Technology monthly newsletter for about a year now, and we wanted to check in to see how you think we're doing!
Tell us what you like or don't like, and if these communiques are coming to you in an effective way, or if there is some other method: (less frequent, more frequent, Twitter, Facebook) that you would prefer.
We've created a very brief 6 question survey to help us get a better idea of what you would like. As thanks for helping us out, we'll enter you into a drawing for a free 17" Dell 1704FPVt LCD Monitor for filling out the survey.
Thanks again for your part in helping keep our planet a little greener by recycling your e-waste properly!
Glen Gaidos CEO / Founder

How to Prevent & Respond to Data Breaches
How does a company protect against a data breach? It's more than just making sure that laptops are secured, and that old hard drives are wiped or destroyed. With smartphones, wireless, WAN, and emerging technologies for access constantly evolving, there's a lot to manage.
A great article below from the GCN (Government Computer News) website describes a new guide for creating a program to prevent data breaches and respond if they were to occur.
Although the article outlines plans for risk assessment and preventative control, it also requires contingency efforts for detection and response to breaches. It provactively states that "You will have a loss of data...There is never going to be a 100 percent guarantee." For the complete article, please click here.

Tracking Trash?
Recently, MIT researchers tagged 3000 pieces of 'garbage' that were going to be discarded by a small army of volunteers in Seattle. Then the researchers tracked the travels of the material, which yielded some interesting results. Thankfully, most material that was recyclable actually went to recycling facilities. For the complete article from the Seattle Times, click here.
Recycling Carpet
We're really excited about this company we just discovered! AGAIN in Kent, WA provides recycling of carpet. It's estimated that Seattle alone generates over a 100 million lbs of discarded carpet each year. The majority of this material, unfortunately, simply goes to landfill. The recycling service provided by AGAIN only costs slightly more than dumping it in a landfill - and that seems a small price to pay to do the right thing.
